Mayor of Québec City Jean Pelletier was a key player in gaining UNESCO’s recognition of the historic district of Old Québec as a World Heritage Site. He was also involved in establishing a UNESCO office in Québec City to serve all of Canada. This headquarters was inaugurated on September 18, 1989.
