A native of Saint-Émile, young prodigy Réal Cloutier joined the Quebec Remparts for the 1972–1973 season. He accumulated 216 points in the 1973–1974 season, still a team record. The Remparts retired his number 10 jersey. In 1974, he was selected in the first round of the World Hockey Association draft by the Quebec Nordiques.
