A native of Québec City, young Guy Chouinard joined the Quebec Remparts just before his 15th birthday. Between 1971 and 1974, he earned over 350 points in three seasons with the team. The Quebec Remparts retired his number 7 jersey. After his career as a player, he became a coach of the team that gave him his start.
