The festive mood at Place d’Youville quickly soured when the results were announced. The International Olympic Committee awarded the 2002 Winter Olympic Games to Salt Lake City instead. It was a total letdown for Québec City. Among other reasons, this decision was because Québec City lacked easy access to Olympic-standard ski slopes.
