The results of the referendum were announced on the evening of May 20, 1980. The “Non” won with 59.56% of the vote, over 40.44% for sovereignty-association. It was during his speech that René Lévesque said the famous words: “If I’ve understood correctly, you’re telling me: ‘Until next time.’”
