The Rainville family going picnicking in a horse-drawn carriage
This photograph shows the Rainville family heading off in a horse-drawn carriage for a picnic, a favourite summer activity. At the time, motor vehicles were rare, so horse-drawn carriages were still a widely used means of transport. As this image shows, it was common for people to dress in their best clothes for picnics.
