Beauport Lake in winter
The pace of daily life in Québec City is set by winter. While the cold season ushered in its share of difficulties, it also made certain aspects of daily life easier, especially transportation. When the water froze, it was easy to get around the city in horse-drawn carts. This is what artist George Heriot shows in this painting of Beauport Lake near Québec City, circa 1830.
