Place Royale, Québec City’s tourist showcase
In the 19th century, Saint-Pierre Street was an essential economic sector. Nicknamed the “Wall Street of Québec City,” it was home to several major financial institutions. However, the decline of the timber trade—the port’s main activity at the time—led to the decline of the Place Royale Market. By 1970, the area would focus on tourism.
