Mining was an important part of Beauport’s economy. Although the Jesuits had used a quarry as early as 1651, its use really expanded under the direction of Pierre Parent and Jeanne Badeau from 1670 onwards. In addition to giving birth to 18 children, Jeanne Badeau successfully managed the company. The industry passed from the Parent family to the merchant Elzéar Verreault in 1912.
