Between 1908 and 1947, Beauport’s economic life was driven by the Montmills sawmill, which provided around 100 jobs during the summer season. The logs travelled up the Montmorency River from Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval to the mill, where they were barked, then shipped by train to Maine in the United States. In 1930, a three-kilometer log flume on trestles was built to facilitate the process.
