Skiing in the street
This image shows a cross-country ski race on Provancher Street in Cap-Rouge. A few spectators and cars can be seen. Cross-country skiing developed rapidly in Canada during the 20th century mainly thanks to Norwegian immigrant Hermann Smith-Johannsen. Nicknamed “Jackrabbit,” he was an ardent promoter of the sport.
