In uniform for the pope!
Originating from various countries, the Papal Zouaves were formed in the 19th century to defend the Papal State and the pope in the event of armed conflict. Over time, however, the military aspect fell away. They became a symbol for devout Catholics to display their faith. The Cadets Zouaves de Charlesbourg were founded in 1923. In this image, the Cloutier brothers are wearing their uniforms with pride.
