Polar bears in Charlesbourg
On the initiative of the Quebec government, a committee chose Charlesbourg as the site for an experimental farm to raise fur-bearing animals. However, the project took a different turn, and in 1932 the Jardin Zoologique du Québec opened its doors. The site expanded rapidly and was home to a wide variety of flora and fauna until it closed in 2006.
