In 1962, the Marist Brothers left Charlesbourg. This was under the order of Brother Henri-Louis, who thought it preferable to focus on foreign missions with more disadvantaged communities. The news took the population by surprise, but it allowed lay teachers to take over. In the years that followed, the Parent Report led to a major reform of the Quebec education system.
