A return to traditions
Dancing was part of the cultural life of the inhabitants of New France. They organized dances for entertainment during the long Quebec winters. Folk dances as we know them today became popular at the turn of the 18th century. Hailing mainly from France and later from Great Britain, these dances are a blend of European traditions brought here through immigration.
