The next step was to obtain the support of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In January 1995, the IOC shortlisted four cities, including Québec City and Salt Lake City. Québec 2002 launched a major appeal to the IOC members who visited Québec City in the following months. The group, which included Richard Pound, were impressed by the sites and the quality of the existing infrastructure.
