The day after his arrival in Canada, Pope John Paul II visited Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, near Québec City. There is an impressive basilica there, where the pope prayed. For centuries, the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Basilica has been a place of pilgrimage for the Innu converts to Catholicism. The Pope also met representatives of the Innu Nation during his visit.
