Pressure from the unions in the 1960s led to improvements in working conditions. The five-and-a-half-day week was shortened to Monday to Friday, and vacation time was extended based on the number of years of service with the company. Nevertheless, a man’s salary was still higher than a woman’s for an equivalent position.
