Mayor Gilles Lamontagne at the 1969 provincial exhibition
When Gilles Lamontagne took office as mayor of Québec City in 1965, he gave himself five years to revitalize the provincial exhibition. To modernize the grounds, he drew inspiration from Expo 67 to renovate and redevelop what would become Expo-Québec in 1969.
