The provincial exhibition developed after the first exhibition in Québec City was organized in 1818 by the Société d’Agriculture de Québec behind the armoury on the Plains of Abraham. Agriculture was a strong economic driver. In the early 20th century, technical and industrial innovations transformed the provincial exhibition. It became an opportunity for retailers to showcase their products.
