When it opened in 1890, the Compagnie Paquet department store was six storeys high, an unusual height for a building of its kind. Divided into several departments, it sold clothing, fabrics, hats and gloves. Other products included furs, shoes, furniture, mattresses, kitchen utensils, toys, rugs, suitcases, silverware, perfumes and books.
