Dog sledding on the Dufferin Terrace
This postcard taken on the Dufferin Terrace in Québec City shows a dog sled, a method of travel invented by and borrowed from Indigenous Peoples. European traders and trappers quickly adopted this means of transporting merchandise after arriving in Canada. Dog sledding was still used out of necessity in some rural areas in the early 20th century, but it was also considered a wintertime sport and tourist attraction in the city.
