Québec City, seen from Beauport, Lower Canada
In this watercolour from 1829, an English soldier looks out from Beauport over an urbanized Québec City. Beauport may seem more agricultural, but the area was also home to industry, including a distillery and mills. These drew water from the Beauport River for a variety of needs, including the production of nails and hemp oil, for example.
