Chaudière Falls are located on the southern shore of the St. Lawrence River, near Québec City. The Chaudière River provides access by water all the way to the United States. It was here that General Benedict Arnold and the American revolutionaries camped before attacking Québec City in 1775. The area was much more peaceful by 1807, when artist George Heriot made this painting.
