The death of General Montgomery
At the start of the War of Independence, the American revolutionaries repeatedly attacked to the north. General Benedict Arnold’s troops arrived in Québec City in December 1775. They were soon joined by Richard Montgomery’s men. The attack began in the middle of a snowstorm. But Québec City was well defended: General Montgomery was killed and the Americans capitulated.
