Champlain drawing a map of Quebec
This engraving was produced in 1908 on the 300th anniversary of Québec City's founding. It shows Samuel de Champlain tracing the map of Québec City on a chest. In the background, French settlers converse with the Indigenous people who already inhabited the territory. Also noteworthy are the Don de Dieu and two birchbark canoes rowing ashore.
