Engraving of the Habitation de Québec settlement
This engraving shows Champlain’s settlement. It is probably taken from John Cassell’s Illustrated History of England. The site of this first permanent French settlement in North America is now designated as the Habitation-Samuel-De Champlain heritage site. It was the dawn of New France and the awakening of a French presence in the Americas.
